چکیده

Consolidation of memories during sleep may involve neuronal replay of daytime activity patterns. A precise replay phenomenon was observed in the song system nucleus RA. We developed statistical pattern !ltering to investigate replay in HVc, where spiking activity is more variable. Long spike sequences during sleep were convolved with !lters constructed from exemplar auditory spike sequences. Examining peaks in the !lter responses, we found many examples of HVc spike trains with temporal patterns similar to the exemplars, con!rming a replay phenomenon for HVc. Statistical pattern !ltering has general utility for !nding spike patterns when a referent pattern is known. c © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Pattern Filtering for Detection of Neural Activity, with Examples from HVc Activity During Sleep in Zebra Finches

The detection of patterned spiking activity is important in the study of neural coding. A pattern filtering approach is developed for pattern detection under the framework of point processes, which offers flexibility in combining temporal details and firing rates. The detection combines multiple steps of filtering in a coarse-to-fine manner. Under some conditional Poisson assumptions on the spi...

Offline learning and the role of autogenous speech: new suggestions from birdsong research

Vocal learning in humans is isolated in evolution, nevertheless the comparative approach can help give insight into mechanisms of speech. Birdsong and speech learning share similar computational problems and may share similar neural mechanisms. In birds, there is a well-known sensory representation of the individual s own song. A similar representation is postulated for speech, and the implicat...

اعتبارسنجی گزارش الگوی خواب کودکان توسط والدین با استفاده از روش عینی اکتی‌گراف

Background and Objective: Sleep Diary is the most practical and cost-effective tool for evaluating sleep habits. However, measurement errors are common issues with self report methods in medical research. The aim of the present study was to evaluate a self- report method compared to Actigraph in assessing sleep patterns in children. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conduc...

A New Compact Ultra-wideband Linear Antenna Array for Target Detection Applications

This paper presents a low-cost compact planar microstrip-fed monopole antenna and its four-element array design for ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless communication and target detection applications, respectively, operating in the frequency span of 3 GHz to 11 GHz. A prototype was fabricated and then measured based on optimal parameters. The results of reflection coefficient (S11) and radiation patt...
